Yandex.BarYandex.Bar is a free, easy-to-use and customizable toolbar that adds a whole new set of functions to a web browser. This plug-in makes web-surfing, searching the Internet and accessing most needed services as simple as possible. Yandex.Bar gives you:
You can arrange buttons, search boxes, and other browser controls to make the best use of space in the browser. You can find a list of options to customize the appearance and other toolbar settings if you click on the Settings button. System requirementsYandex.Bar supports Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later, Mozilla Firefox 3.0 or later. The minimum system requirements for running Yandex.Bar at Firefox are Microsoft Windows XP or later, Linux or Mac OS X, Mozilla Firefox version 3.0.x or later, for Internet Explorer these are Windows XP or later, Internet Explorer version 6.0 or later. You can also set another search engine as default for your toolbar.
To limit the scope of the search to the site you're currently visiting, click the Bar's search field and click the “Search in this website” box in the dropdown Suggestor form.
As you type a search query into the Yandex.Bar search box, you see a list of suggestions based on popular Yandex searches, spelling corrections and your search box history.
You can open the search results and service pages in a new window. To do so press the keyboard shortcut Shift + Enter, or click the “Find” button while holding the Shift key after entering a query in the Yandex.Bar, the search result will open in a new window. Information about the Current page
Yandex.Bar can highlight the words you need on the page and scroll down to the place where the words first occur.
Citation Index (CI) — displays how popular the page is. This information is provided by Yandex proprietary ranking system.
If you realize that the page you have opened contains spam, you can send a complaint to Yandex support team with a click on the SPAM icon. This information will be used to exclude sites with spam from Yandex search engine results pages. If you press the Reference button, you will see the latest references to the current page in blogs and forums. The number of references available is displayed on the right to the References icon.
Page comments This indicator displays the number of blog comments about the webpage you're currently viewing. If you click this button a pop-up window appears with the ten most recent comments. You can also easily view the comment's source page. Spellchecker If you want to check spelling in form fields on a webpage, click the Spellchecker button. Yandex.Bar sends the text to be checked by the Yandex Spellchecker service and highlights words that are spelled improperly.
Translator The Bar will translate any word on a webpage from Russian to a foreign language (or vice versa). The translator is activated by default. To select which languages to translate from – English, German, French, Spanish, or Italian –, click the arrow next to the “Word translation” button and select the desired language in the menu that appears. Unless another language is selected, English-Russian and Russian-English translation will be activated.
To translate a word, mouse over it: a small pop-up menu appears next to it with several translation options. To see them all, click the “Find all variants” link. A corresponding article will open in a new window on Yandex.Dictionaries.
Weather and traffic Yandex.Toolbar will show you the real-time weather conditions for a chosen location. Clicking on the weather icon will lead you to Yandex.weather page with information about weather conditions and forecasts for different parts of the world. Real-time traffic information is displayed on the right of the toolbar in the Traffic icon. The "traffic lights" and the figure will show you the current traffic situation (green light and figures 1—3 indicate that the traffic in the city is light; yellow light and figures 4—6 — show that the traffic is high; red light and figures 7—10 — indicate that most streets of the city are highly overloaded). Clicking on the traffic icon will lead you to Yandex map with all these traffic conjunctions marked, this will allow you to choose the best route bypassing traffic jams.
Information on Exchange Rates and Stock Indexes Yandex.Bar displays the current exchange rate and stock indexes. By default, the dollar and Euro rates (USD and EUR) against the ruble, the difference between yesterday's and today's rates, and the exchange rate forecast for tomorrow are displayed. There is no limit to the number of quotations you can have on the Bar. You can replace quotations or add new ones. If you click a quotation you will get to a page displaying more detailed information on quotations on the Yandex.News service. Visual bookmarks When you open a new tab, instead of a blank page you see miniature images of your favorite sites, as well as the Yandex search box. Just one click, and you're at your favorite site. Homepage Protection When Yandex.Bar detects that the homepage address has been changed, it displays an alert stating that the homepage has been changed, and shows which address has replaced it. If you disagree with the changes, you can cancel them by clicking “Restore”, which restores the homepage address. If the homepage was changed with your knowledge, click the “Accept” button. This confirms that the changes were made with your consent. Yandex.Bar will remember and save the new address. Certain programs can not only change the homepage without your knowledge, but also block its restoration. As a rule this suggests a virus or other malicious software. If this occurs, Yandex.Bar displays a notification stating that the homepage cannot be saved, since it is constantly being replaced with another.
Tab Restoration Yandex.Bar can restore previously opened pages, even if Internet Explorer was shut down improperly – for example, the power went out, or the operating system “froze”. Each time the browser is launched, Yandex.Bar offers to restore the tabs that were open at the time when Internet Explorer was shut down.The "Text Only" button The "Text only" feature is designed to work with articles or webpages that contain large blocks of text. It displays webpages in an easy to read format. You will only see the relevant text which will be displayed in a font that's easy on the eyes, and any illustrations that accompany it. Log in to Yandex “Key” icon calls the login window to access personalized Yandex services, such as Mail, Favorites,Subscriptions, Money and others.
My Bar “My Bar” is the user's “private niche” – a toolbar that displays your avatar, name, and mood, as well as the Yandex services you use. You can go to any of the services you use by clicking on its name in the “I use” list, or by clicking the “N more services” link, if you use more than six Yandex services. You can switch users or log out of Yandex.Bar by clicking on “Switch user” or “Log out”, respectively.
Personal services (for logged in users)“Mail button” provides a quick access to Yandex.Mail web interface and shows the number of new messages in your mailbox.
In addition, when new messages arrive for you you'll see a notification, which when clicked takes you to your inbox.
Yandex.Fotki. Shows the number of your favorite authors’ photos on Yandex.Fotki - Yandex free photo hosting service.
Ya.ru. Shows the number of new replies to your blog posts or comments to your photos in Ya.ru – Yandex social network.
“Yandex.Lenta” icon indicates the number of news items in the RSS web reader, clicking on this icon will lead you to the web interface of the service. You can subscribe to new RSS feeds with one click. Yandex.Bar automatically detects which web pages are available for subscription and activates the subscription button.
The “wallet” icon indicates how much money you have in your web wallet at Yandex.Money, clicking on this icon will lead you to the web page of Yandex.Money, where you can manage your balance, change your personal information, etc.
Yandex.Favorites. Yandex.Bar lets you know when the page you're on is in your collection on Yandex.Favorites. Additionally, the transparent star icon changes to a colored-in star. If you click this icon, a window opens where you can edit the current bookmark.
With the Options function you can make the program as intuitive and convenient for you as possible.
“Bookmarks” icon allows you to create and label bookmarks that can be accessed from any PC. Clicking on this icon will lead you to the Yandex.Bookmarks service.
Install new buttons on Yandex.Bar The new buttons can be displayed along with the current ones or can replace them. The only elements that cannot be replaced are the search box, the “Yandex” and “Comments” buttons, and the “Cities” toolbar.
